Yes, the minimum age is 18.
The minimum visa you will be required to hold is the 3 month Tourist Visa. However, if you wish to continue your travels around Australia with the opportunity to supplement your travel funds through incidental employment you will be required to hold a valid Australian Working Visa. For more information ask your booking agent or visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship web site at www.immi.gov.au
No form of dive certification is required to start the course. However, if you are joining the program already holding an Open Water/ Advance or Rescue ticket, the relevant paper work, card and log book will be needed You are required to complete the application form included in this pack. It is also necessary for you to be able to swim at least 400m in under 20 mins.
We advise you to have a medical check for diving before departing for the course. You will still be required to have an Australian Standards Dive Medical on arrival which ADA will arrange on your behalf.
It is your responsibility to make your way to either Brisbane, Coolangatta (Gold Coast) or Ballina Airport where you will be met by a member of the ADA team to transfer you to Byron Bay. There are many international flights direct to Brisbane or Sydney. There are connecting domestic flights from Brisbane to Coolangatta, and from Sydney to Ballina, which is the closest airport to Byron Bay.
You will be staying above the Byron Bay Dive Centres in its self- contained, on site lodge. All linen, kitchen ware and laundry facilities are provided. You'll be able to watch the sunset sitting in the hammocks enjoying your BBQ!
Your main outgoings will be food and entertainment. We understand everyone varies in terms of tastes, requirements, social life and spending habits. Although the ADA expects your primary commitment to be the course Byron offers plenty of entertainment from having a schooner at the local pub with live music to surfing the breaks at The Pass.
Full diving equipment will be provided for you and is included in the cost of the course. For full details see the information page. All you are required to bring is your swimmers and a towel.
We suggest you talk to your booking agent or travel agent regarding insurance. You will be required to have a policy that covers diving to 30 meters. For a more dive- specific insurance policy go to www.daneurope.org. DO NOT TAKE THE RISK OF TRAVELLING WITHOUT INSURANCE.
Deposits are non-refundable. Payment of a 20% deposit enables the ADA and/or its booking agent to hold a reservation for you. Full payment must be received 60 days prior to the start of the course.
If you cancel your placement you may be entitled to a refund. The cancellation conditions which apply are set out in the Terms and Conditions of booking.
